Tidal Beach at Rivendown

You will have to visit Rivendown Farm in Machiasport Maine to catch sight of this view and this painting. The farm has a beautiful rustic newly renovated cottage on the property which is available for vacationers to rent, but be forewarned, there are no spas on the property nor a lap pool fitted with a cabana boy ready to pop your cork and pour your champagne or rub suntan oil on your back. This setting is for those who appreciate nature and seek to surround themselves with it.

The local landscape yields a bountiful feast for the eyes in every direction. Here, the air is cool and clean and the waters are crystal clear and decorated with thousands of colorful lobster trap markers and the opportunity to see a whale, seal, eagle or moose provides itself around every corner.

Bev and Hugh Taylor, the owners of the property are such great, down to earth people who go out of their way to make you at home and comfortable in their cottage - the kind of people you don't come across too often and when you do, you never forget them.

I painted this piece during my stay at the farm and left it with the Taylors to hang in the cottage. I find contentment in knowing that a part of my soul will remain up north at Rivendown.

Thank you Bev and Hugh for sharing your slice of heaven with us.

New England Woodland

I have been experiencing some very rewarding studio time during the past several weeks and am excited about keeping up the momentum.

This painting of my New England hiking experience has inspired me to launch a series of work focusing on our very early spring landscape. As I paint, I recreate in my mind what all my senses were observing during my time recently spent in the woods. The scent of thaw and dankness. The clacking of rigid boughs hitting against each other in a gale reminiscent of a brief time ago, when temperatures were lesser, and snow covered the land. All this I pour out onto my canvas. Can you feel the chill? Can you hear the battering of the branches? Trust me, in a month or so you'll be begging for this experience. Please check back soon for more of my New England Early Spring landscapes - www.desanostudio.blogspot.com.

The snow has now melted away here in RI into our annual late winter showers. The surrounding scenery is rather dull this time of year so I will reference some photographs to paint from and wait another few weeks for a spring palette to blossom. This painting is from last summer's trip to Maine's Isle of Springs. A place that blankets my soul with tranquility and entices and entwines my senses. A place which affords me the opportunity to truly and consciously live rather than just exist.

This is one of several of my paintings which will be hanging in Starbucks County Rd. Barrington RI. March 1st through the 31st. This will be a group show and the theme is Food. I have really been enjoying painting food these past couple weeks. Unlike my usual landscape you get to eat your subject matter once you are done painting it...... Oh this is dangerous. Maybe I should think about painting a treadmill.

Fall in New England..... like no other place in the world. I have been enjoying the crisp temps since this past October and all the snow we have had this winter. I'm sad to see it go but I will hold on to it for a few more weeks in my studio with my paint and brushes.
