I am currently working on a series of paintings for an invitational event at the Providence Art Club. The event is being hosted by the "National Organization of Italian American Women". Naturally I have reflected upon my own Italian heritage, experiences and time spent in Italy to prepare for this show. Sunflowers (girasoli) always bring me back to my childhood and my Italian household. Time spent outside planting the sunflower seeds in the garden with my father and watching the plants grow right before my eyes, just like something out of Jack and the Beanstalk. As fall approached, the big flower heads would start to dry and birds would cling to them while filling their bellies with the seeds to fuel them for the migration they would soon face............
