This painting was a true exploration of the soul. I didn't have a final image in my mind while creating this. Only the raw materials at my fingertips. If you look closely at the background you can see a woman's face. Her presence, watching over the child like a guardian angel.....or Seraph.

This is a photograph that I took during my last visit to San Gimignano Italy. I printed the image on photo canvas and then painted over the image with oil paint leaving some of the photo untouched. Our most recent trip to the Cape landed us in Wellfleet at the Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary. There are a multitude of trails here covering woods, salt marshes, freshwater ponds, the barrier beach and tidal flats. What a gem for the outdoor enthusiast/painter. I am off to Maine to visit a friend who owns an Island off of Booth Bay Harbor. I'll be sketching photographing and painting on site. Can't wait!

After quite a long break it is certainly nice to be back. This painting is one of three that I have been working on. I have a 20 x 30 commission piece that is coming along nicely and a very dramatic Vermont landscape that measures 16 x 20 which you will soon be seeing. I am enjoying the larger format for now rather than the smaller paintings that I have recently been working on. Fleur Juane is hanging in a new gallery at Coldwell Banker in Wayland Manor 225 Wayland Ave. in Providence, RI. along with several other paintings of mine. Ogunquit Maine. I could not see the ocean but was well aware of its company. Before long, the sun lit just enough for me to reacquaint myself with familiar surroundings. Blustering snow just a few weeks past in the space above me has now been replaced by a blur of fluttering moths............... a sure sign of the new season.

Moon Tide At Laudholm

Laudholm Farm historically was a saltwater farm which is now part of the Wells Reserve in Maine. Hiking Trails cover a varied topography of fields, forests, salt marshes and beaches. It is a location that I take pleasure in revisiting often. On this particular morning we were out before the sun came up hoping to spot deer, which are very plentiful in the area, on the beach. As day broke a thick fog rolled in and we could barley see 10 feet in front of us. Not a condusive enviroment for seeing anything but my own feet yet I was moved to document the event with a painting.

Striking Moment

It was one of those moments that make you stop what you are doing and fully experience every aspect of it. As soon as the storm clouds settled overhead the wind died down and everything was still. Complete silence was interrupted metrically by a distant foghorn. There was the scent of salt in the air and the atmosphere became so heavy you could feel it weighing on your chest with every breath. Yes, we did get soaked that day.

I often like to paint the same composition several times varying the size or type of substrate. This repetitive process allows me to become more intimate and familiar with my subject. I think this might be the beginning of a pepper series. My friend Kyle who happens to be a pepper connoisseur has turned me onto some of the hottest and most unusual peppers in the world. He is sought after by many local restaurants for his pepper expertise and recipes. He has started his indoor vegetable garden which includes pepper plants from India, Thailand and Mexico so by June I'll be painting some of Kyle's homegrown varieties.
