The event is being hosted by the <span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#660000;">"National Organization of Italian American Women"</span>. Naturally I have reflected upon my own Italian heritage, experiences and time spent in Italy to prepare for this show. Sunflowers (girasoli) always bring me back to my childhood and my Italian household. Time spent outside planting the sunflower seeds in the garden with my father and watching the plants grow right before my eyes, just like something out of Jack and the Beanstalk. As fall approached, the big flower heads would start to dry and birds would cling to them while filling their bellies with the seeds to fuel them for the migration they would soon face............ The river is named after Walter Palmer, one of the founders of <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_1">Rehoboth</span> MA. and consists of two <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_2">separate</span> branches, the east and west. The two branches start <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_3">separately</span> in <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_4">Rehoboth</span> and also converge in <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_5">Rehoboth</span>. It then runs about 11 miles south through Swansea before entering <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_6">Barrington</span> and Warren at which point it spills into the <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_7">Barrington</span> River. It is a a <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_8">visual</span> splendor with all of it's in and outs of marshes interlocking with the water's edge like pieces of a puzzle. A great river to <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_9">kayak</span> or to view from the East Bay Bike Path. So little space, so little soil and yet enough to sustain life. We hiked the Boulder Loop Trail in the White Mountain National Forest of NH to access the ledges. It was a 3 or so mile, easy to moderate hike. It is called <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_0">Caratunk</span> and is a wildlife refuge thanks to the <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_1">Greenhalgh</span> family. It is a place which I visit often to enjoy the scenery, <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_2">quietness</span> and wildlife. I capture the moment with either photographs or quick field sketches and return to my studio to paint while the experience is still fresh in my mind. During this particular visit we saw a buck and four female deer. There are a multitude of trails here covering woods, <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_2">salt marshes</span>, freshwater ponds, the barrier beach and tidal flats. What a gem for the outdoor <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_3">enthusiast</span>/painter. I am off to Maine to visit a friend who owns an Island off of Booth Bay Harbor. This painting is one of three that I have been working on. I have a 20 x 30 <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_0">commission</span> piece that is coming along nicely and a very dramatic Vermont landscape that measures 16 x 20 which you will soon be seeing. I am enjoying the larger format for now rather than the smaller paintings that I have recently been working on. It is a location that I take pleasure in revisiting often. On this particular morning we were out before the sun came up hoping to spot deer, which are very plentiful in the area, on the beach. As day broke a thick fog rolled in and we could barley see 10 feet in front of us. This repetitive process allows me to become more intimate and familiar with my subject. My friend Kyle who happens to be a pepper connoisseur has turned me onto some of the hottest and most unusual peppers in the world. He is sought after by many local restaurants for his pepper expertise and recipes. Mostly birds, squirrels and a few deer. I use them to sketch my surroundings on. I also photograph the scene that I have sketched. In my studio I later paint over the sketch referencing my photographs as well as my memory.<br /><br />This painting does come with a frame and is the perfect size to display on a table top easel.
